AFL 9s dominant force ‘Launch It’ will have their work cut out for them when they take on ‘The Dewys’ in the AFL 9s Grand Final to be held at Kialla Park Recreation Reserve tomorrow night.
This season, the fourth of the mixed social AFL 9s competition at Kialla Park, has seen Launch It and The Dewys be the two dominate teams.
Launch It are playing off for their fourth successive premiership and are a very strong team led by experienced AFL 9s players Scott Turner, Brett Barthman, Nathan Turner, Grace Egan and Paigan Impey. Egan and Impey have been superb in front of goals all season and if they kick straight the reigning champions will be hard to beat.
The Dewys, playing AFL 9s for the first time, have been very impressive with James Lloyd, Matt Walker and Peter Atkin making sure they more often than not get first use of the ball out of the middle. Mel Weston has added some sparkle and skill to the team for the second half of the season and Tacinta Lloyd is courageous with her attack on the footy.
The Grand Final will commence at 6:50pm following the completion of the two consolation games which will begin at 6:00pm.
AFL 9s is a social mixed competition with each team having nine players, three of which must be female. The rectangle shape field is 100x50m and is broken into three sections – Backs, Mids and Forwards. Forwards are the only players who can score and a female kicking a goal is worth 9 points. The format is non-contact with the emphasis on fast, fun, fitness and lots of social interaction.
