Media Release 19.06.2013
WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Lambourn to the role of Football Development Manager for the Goulburn Murray Region.
Lambourn, a former Team Leader in the Sports Facilities and Premier Places Department of the Greater Shepparton City Council, was the standout candidate in an extensive recruitment process that considered a long list of quality applicants.
Lambourn will join current Goulburn Murray Region Development Manager Greg Liddell and former Central Murray Region Development Manager Trevor Mellington in a Development Team of three, with Liddell and Mellington transitioning into their new Football Development Manager roles during July
The trio will be key figures in the development and implementation of a strategic plan for football in the region and have a hands-on role in promoting and growing the game, in conjunction with the AFL Goulburn Murray Commission and WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country.
Chairman of the Goulburn Murray Commission Nicholas Rolfe said the appointment represented a significant investment in the local football community.
“Having Mark join our FDM team in the Goulburn Murray Region will benefit all associated leagues, clubs and players, along with the next generation of footballers involved in local NAB AFL Auskick programs,” Rolfe said.
The role of the FDM is an amalgamation of the current AFL Victoria Region Development Managers and WorkSafe AFL Vic Country Area Managers, and will give all stakeholders in the region access to new levels of support and game development expertise.
Rolfe believes Lambourn’s experience with the Greater Shepparton City Council will be pivotal to building stronger relationships with local football affiliates.
“The restructure of football administration in the Goulburn Murray Region presents an opportunity to increase the resources in football communities and have local people charged with making decisions that reflect local needs and values,” Rolfe said.
“Mark brings to the role tremendous understanding of the local football community and strong working relationships with many of our affiliated clubs. His knowledge and sports experience will compliment both Greg Liddell and Trevor Mellington, whose experience will be invaluable in the new structure.”
