Coaches from across the Goulburn Murray will have the opportunity to learn from a very experienced voice when Ron Rooney presents at an AFL Goulburn Murray Coaches Association seminar in November.
The seminar, to be focused on developing thinking footballers, will be held at the Kialla Park Community Centre on Thursday 10 November commencing at 7.00pm.
Rooney has an illustrious coaching and coach education career with a particular specialty of community football.
Selected as a coach and player in the Oak Park team of the century Ron captained-coached Oak Park to its’ first ever senior flag as well as representing the WRFL and EDFL as a player, head coach and coach of the year on a number of occasions during his long senior playing and coaching career.
He has also worked at the elite level of sport including a stint as the fitness advisor to the Victorian Cricket team (1979-1983) and the full time Coaching and Development Manager for Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia from 1990 to 2000.
Recently he has worked on a joint University of Canberra, Cricket Australia and AFL school, community and local club project aimed at increasing the physical activity of primary school age children and the capability of local clubs and communities to provide a quality community club experience.
