After many months of preparation, it is with much regret and a heavy heart that we are contacting you to inform you that the Reconciliation Football/Netball Day scheduled for this Wednesday 14th September has been cancelled.
With the forecast wet conditions over the next three days, contact has been made directly with the Bureau of Meteorology and they have confirmed that Echuca is expected to receive between 10-25ml of rain on Wednesday. The BOM also indicated that this could be further increased by the high likelihood of thunderstorms with this weather event. Given this forecast, and the inability to provide shelter for the volume of people involved, we felt that there was no option for proceeding.
Obviously, we are extremely disappointed and we will begin discussions to ascertain whether or not this extremely significant event can be rescheduled in early Term 4.
Given the significant numbers of people involved as participants, presenters, volunteers and organisers, it was necessary that we make this call as early as possible to minimise the inconvenience to a large number of people that would have been travelling and/or helping at this event including approximately 100 volunteers in addition to the 900 students participating in the event.
We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all sponsors, volunteers, supporters and participants for their respective contributions to this culturally significant event in our community and we would hope to be able to bring you an update of any revised plans as soon as we are able.
Regards,
Paul Clarke (Koorie Engagement Support Officer)
Trevor Mellington (AFL Victoria Country Football Development Manager)
