The Kyabram District Football Netball League urges its supporters to ‘Just Watch The Game’ this weekend in support of the Gambling’s Not A Game program.
Gambling’s Not A Game is an initiative of the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation with a focus on educating sporting clubs to provide healthy and responsible club environments.
Primary Care Connect’s Manager Clinical Services Kim Scott praised the League for its participation in the initiative.
"Its great to see the KDFNL promoting responsible social messages through its member clubs" she said.
"A key issue in our community is the increasingly entrenched culture of gambling, particularly sports betting and the Gambling’s Not A Game program seeks to minimise the exposure of gambling activities, especially to young people."
"It is not about telling people not to gamble, it is about encouraging responsible gambling and increasing the awareness of the risks that can be associated with gambling."
"The program offers a free education workshop for clubs with a focus on youth and gambling, sports betting, latest research and the impact of emerging technologies and their impact on gambling."
KDFNL President Wayne Ryan recognises the role of the League’s clubs as leaders in their local community.
"The KDFNL and our member clubs pride ourselves as being a family focused and family friendly League" he said.
"We cater for males and females of all ages and demographics as players, volunteers, members or spectators."
"As a League we are conscious of our role as community leaders and see this round as a way of taking a leadership role in raising community awareness to the dangers and impacts of irresponsible gambling."
"As part of our themed round we will be providing an information pack to all clubs, have a presentation at our next delegates meeting as well as encouraging clubs to host the education seminars for their local communities and to sign up to the Responsible Gambling Charter."
