Mooroopna’s Katie Vandermeer will record an extraordinary achievement this weekend when she plays her 450th game against Shepparton Swans on Saturday at Mooroopna Recreation Reserve.
Mooroopna representative Geenah Loughran was full of praise for Katie’s achievements.
"Since coming to Mooroopna in 2001 Katie has been a genuine leader at the club and has formed many lifelong friendships" she said.
"She has been a prolific Centre court player, particularly C and WA and has been a headache for opposition defenders for more than 20 years."
"She is very quick and can read the play well, especially her ‘long bombs’ into the goal circle form the centre."
"Katie is a GVNL Life Member and her league career began at Shepparton Bears at the age of 17 where she played 39 games in the A Grade side and won the A Grade Club Best and Fairest award."
"Katie then moved to Shepparton United where a lot of her friends were and played in 3 B Grade Premierships working her way through 185 games."
"She eventually joined Mooroopna in 2001 where her husband Jeff was involved and in a remarkable stint at the Cats, Katie has played 226 games with 57 in A Grade, 101 in B Grade and 68 in B Reserve."
"Throughout her career at Mooroopna she has achieved many personal achievements along the way, winning the B Grade Best and Fairest in 2004 and 2007, the B Reserve Best and Fairest in 2015 and was Runner Up for B Reserve in 2011, 2012 and 2013."
"Katie is a bit of a character and is very well known around the club for many different reasons, as well as her outstanding netball career."
"Every club has their very own Katie, but we think ours is the funniest, most true blue and the most caring out of the lot!"
