The GOTAFE GVFL and GVNL will ramp up its support for Victoria Police this weekend with a Blue Ribbon themed round to promote and fundraise for the Blue Ribbon Foundation.
Mooroopna and Shepparton Swans will be the feature match of the weekend as they once again compete for the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Shield, a contest which has being taking place since 2002.
GOTAFE GVFL Chairman David Roff highlighted the recognition for our law enforcement officers that the Blue Ribbon Foundation commemorates.
"The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a really crucial organisation in our community" he said.
"Not only does it commemorate the memory of Victoria Police officers killed in the line of duty it raises valuable funds for the projects benefiting the community."
"As a grateful community we can take steps to honour the memory of fallen Officers to ensure their sacrifice is acknowledged through a range of projects that benefit the wider community."
"As a community football organisation we are strong in supporting our community and our support for this round will be to profile the Foundation and to assist in their fundraising efforts."
"At the feature match at Mooroopna the senior players and officials of both clubs and members of Shepparton Police Station will observe a minute’s silence for those killed in the line of duty."
"There will also be a best on ground/court medal award to each team and the winning club is determined by the club who has the most wins over the seven games."
"At all games across the League this weekend the local police constabulary will toss the coin prior to the start of the Senior football game and there will be promotional material to educate on the Foundation and also donation tins to help raise importantly needed funds."
Dean Lloyd, the Chairman of the Shepparton Branch of the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation, appreciates the support of the football community.
"Each year our branch has benefitted from the Mooroopna v Shepparton Swans and it has become an important fundraiser on our calendar" he said.
"We are always humbled by the financial support received annually from supporters and we are greatly appreciative of the generous support of the Goulburn Valley Football League to promote the Foundation at every game this weekend."
