Picola United and Yarroweyah will be fighting for more than just pride when they met in the WorkSafe Game of the Month at Saturday 3 August at Picola.
Hawthorn legend Gary Ayres will be the guest speaker at a special luncheon to help celebrate the sixth WorkSafe Game of the Month for 2013 and present the winning senior football and netball teams with specially struck “WorkSafe Cups” at the conclusion of the senior football match.
Ayres is a five-time premiership player and with the Hawthorn Football Club, and one of only two players to have won multiple Norm Smith Medals.
Since leaving the AFL system and taking the reins at VFL powerhouse Port Melbourne, Ayres has continued to enhance his reputation as a football mentor and led the Borough to the 2011 premiership and a record breaking winning streak in 2012.
The WorkSafe Game of the Month program, now in its 11th year, has become a major highlight of the WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country calendar.
In an extra initiative at the WorkSafe Games of the Month, country supporters can also receive a free comprehensive health check courtesy of WorkHealth at the match.
WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country General Manager Brett Connell encouraged all fans and officials to support this endeavour “we hope all supporters who are at the game come and see the nurses at the WorkHealth marquee and book in for health check. It will take just 15 minutes out of your day to get your own personal scorecard on your health. It could be the most important 15 minutes of your weekend.”
Picola and District Football Netball League President Shane Railton welcomed the initiative “days like this are a great showcase for our League and our role in the community. We cover 16 clubs in two Leagues from Shepparton East to Jerilderie with the football and netball clubs integral to the social and sporting environment in the towns they represent.”
“I look forward to welcoming Gary at the game and for the two clubs to put on a good contest in front of a big crowd to showcase their skills and the League overall.”
