The prestigious Victoria Country v Victoria Metro (The Lawrie Evans Memorial Match) Masters game returns to Shepparton this weekend with the two heavyweights to light up Deakin Reserve on Saturday 11 June.
The annual clash, now in its 16th year sees the best of the country Victoria’s Masters players against the best of Metro Melbourne. To qualify for Masters competitions participants must be over the age of 35 years.
The game will be played under lights at Deakin Reserve and will start at the conclusion of the Shepparton v Kyabram senior GOTAFE GVFL match.
Victoria Country President Wayne Hall sees this game as a great way to build on the success of last year’s clash.
"This annual event is an important one on our calendar as it profiles the best in Victoria against each other" he said.
"Representing your State is a big honour and the players certainly respect their opportunity and will be keen to continue the strong Country v Metro rivalry."
"Naturally the competition can be pretty fierce on the field but it is also a great social environment and both teams will take the opportunity to mix and enjoy each other’s company over the long weekend in Shepparton."
"There is some extra spark in this year’s event with the establishment of the GV Giants to join Echuca as the Masters teams in the Goulburn Murray."
"The Vic Country side will be coached by GV Giants Coach Buck McPhee and there will be lots of local talent on show as well as the best of the Country and Metro divisions."
