The GVFL’s office building at Dunkirk Avenue has been sold after being on the market for the past couple of months.
The club’s voted unanimously on 16 March to put the office up for sale after there had been very little interest when the building was on the market for lease for the previous nine months.
The building will continue to house a local business and has been purchased by Rent 4 Keeps Shepparton who provide rental household goods and appliances such as televisions, computers and white goods.
GOTAFE GVFL Chairman David Roff acknowledged the end of an era as well as seeing the sale as the right thing to do.
"With the operational move to AFL Goulburn Murray at the start of last season the office has now become defunct as the administration base for the League" he said.
"Over the past 12 months we had put the building on the market for Lease but unfortunately had been unable to attract a suitor."
"Taking into account the prohibitive cost of maintaining the building with little use the clubs decided at their March meeting that it should be put on the market for sale."
"After seeking appropriate valuations and listing the property we are really pleased to announce the sale to a local business house and the Executive are happy with the financial outcome."
"I acknowledge that the selling of the building is the end of an era for the League and there are many memories for many people that have walked through the door over the past 15 years."
"At the end of the day the Board and clubs took a carefully weighed up business decision and, like the lifecycle of all investments, Dunkirk Avenue had reached its maturity."
"The anticipated office extensions at Kialla Park will more than accommodate our administration needs and we will ensure that memorabilia and history will be available for GVFL supporters to view."
"The Board will now sit down and discuss the best plan of attack for the proceeds of the sale, bearing in mind the need to benefit all member clubs."
"Under active consideration is the establishment of a grants style program to assist clubs in regenerating and updating facilities and we will look at this as being the first priority."
