Finley Football Netball Club, in conjunction with Shepparton District Junior Football League (SDJFL) and AFL Goulburn Murray, hosted an official SDJFL Youth Girls game at Finley Recreation Reserve under lights on Saturday evening 30 April 2016.
The game featured Northern Angels and Echuca and was played as a feature event following the Murray Football League (MFL) fixture of Finley v Barooga.
SDJFL President Chris Thomas is excited at the opportunity to promote Youth Girls football to a new audience.
"The game was played at Finley to promote Youth Girls football in the region and to drive enthusiasm to support the competition’s future growth ambitions" he said.
"The SDJFL Youth Girls competition provides girls from 13 to 18 years of age with an opportunity to play community football each week."
"The competition is in its fifth year and with teams based in Shepparton, Mooroopna, Nathalia (Northern Angels) and Echuca a team encompassing Finley, Deniliquin, Cobram, Barooga and surrounds is a definite target into the future."
"The ongoing success of the Youth Girls has also been the key driver in the set-up of the Shepparton Women’s team who played their first official game in the VWFL this season."
"The introduction of the AFL women’s competition in 2017 will provide the top of the elite pathway and will only serve to encourage more girls to get out and play."
"A hearty thank you should also be extended to Finley FNC for their proactivity and support for this event to occur."
