GVFL and KDFNL clubs will receive club development assistance from AFL Goulburn Murray and Valley Sport in an innovative workshop based program over the next 12 months.
The program, incorporating club health checks, financial planning assistance and a junior development strategy will take the form of interactive club workshops delivered by staff over the next 12 months.
AFL Goulburn Murray Region General Manager views the program as the next evolution of the support to be delivered by the Region Administration Centre.
"Over the past couple of years there have been significant development focused outcomes achieved across the region through reviews and participation focused initiatives" he said.
"The launch of the Commission’s Health Services Strategy last year has also led player and volunteer support initiatives such as Outside The Locker Room, the Health Services Directory and Man Up."
"A key Strategic Priority of the Commission is Community and it is under this priority that this program will provide the next level of support through education and training to club volunteers and administrators."
"The program has been almost nine months in development and with the support of Valley Sport and Bendigo Bank it is exciting to be able to release it to clubs and get started."
Mark Brown, Bendigo Bank Regional Manager has identified that the Club Development Program aligns strongly to their vision.
"Our vision is to be Australia’s most connected Bank and we currently provide financial support and assistance to many communities throughout the Goulburn Murray and other areas" he said.
"This is another example of assisting our local clubs to develop sustainable and successful organisations for the benefit of the community and its members."
The program has great synergies with the work of Valley Sport, according to Executive Officer David Quinn.
"A key area of our work with clubs is around their governance and administrative structures to ensure their sustainability off the field" he said.
"Partnering with AFL Goulburn Murray in this initiative will assist us in working with football netball clubs to achieve outcomes for the benefit of all parties."
GVFL Chairman David Roff is fully supportive of the direction the Club Development Program will take.
"Supporting club administrators and volunteers was a key discussion when the GVFL Board was drafting our Strategic Plan in the off season" he said.
"Our volunteers are crucial to the success of our clubs and it is important that we take a leadership role in helping our clubs get their off field structures right and provide some direction where it is required."
"We are pleased this is being actioned in this manner and believe it will be of great assistance to all clubs."
KDFNL President Wayne Ryan encouraged his clubs to fully embrace the opportunity.
"Our clubs are run by dedicated and committed volunteers who do a fantastic job all year round" he said.
"This program will be of great support and we encourage clubs to be fully involved and make the most of the opportunity."
