The future stars of Australian Rules football will lace up the boots in country Victoria next week for the 2016 NAB AFL Auskick State Season Launch on Tuesday March 22nd.
More than 120 participants will be in attendance at Hopwood Gardens in Echuca to welcome the new NAB AFL Auskick season, which promises to be another huge year of Australia’s favourite introductory junior sporting program.
Over the past 21 years, NAB AFL Auskick has helped hundreds of thousands of boys and girls take their first steps in Australian Rules football, allowing them to develop skills, make friends and have fun with their parents in an all-encompassing environment.
With more than 46,000 NAB AFL Auskick participants registered last year, AFL Victoria Auskick Development Coordinator, Dale Wain said that the interest already seen in 2016 was promising.
"So far we have had over 16,000 participants sign up across Victoria since registrations opened in mid-January, which is really pleasing," Wain said.
"NAB AFL Auskick continues to be a much-loved program of children and parents alike and with registration numbers already topping those at the same time last year, we’re expecting more children than ever to pick up a football in 2016."
Officially launching the new NAB AFL Auskick season is Shire of Campaspe Mayor Leigh Wilson, NAB Representatives, and AFL Goulburn Murray General Manager, Martin Gleeson.
With Echuca selected as only the second regional area to host the state NAB AFL Auskick launch, AFL Goulburn Murray General Manager, Martin Gleeson said the community is excited to be part of the launch.
"The Port of Echuca is the perfect location for the NAB AFL Auskick launch to be held with children, our special guests and AFL players having a kick-to-kick in the scenic Hopwood Gardens," he said.
"Auskick numbers are on the rise in the Goulburn Murray region, with over 2,000 children participating in 50 Auskick centres last season which place community football in good stead for the future."
AFL Multicultural Ambassador Darcy Vescio (Western Bulldogs/Darebin Falcons), AFL legend Robert ‘Dipper’ DiPierdomenico and Hawthorn stars Jack Gunston, Bradley Hill, Jermain Miller-Lewis and Luke Surman will also be in attendance to lend a hand at the launch.
Students from Echuca Primary School, Echuca Rockets Specialist School and local indigenous Auskick centre, the Warma Turtles will be participating in the launch festivities, showcasing their new football skills.
In addition, five local schools will join in the fun with a super clinic to begin at 1:30pm-3pm before a free community event from 4pm – 6pm where kids aged 5 to 12 will be able to participate in a host of football fun activities.
