In a landmark deal AFL Goulburn Murray, in conjunction with the GOTAFE Goulburn Valley Football League, Kyabram District Football Netball League and Shepparton District Junior Football League, has put pen to paper on a deal with community radio station One FM to be the region’s radio broadcast partner for the next three years.
The deal confirms One FM’s standing as the region’s pre-eminent football radio station and guarantees the coverage and profile of local football over the term of the agreement.
AFL Goulburn Murray Region General Manager Martin Gleeson sees the result as an outcome of a collaborative effort.
"This is a great result for the three leagues concerned as well as providing long term security for One FM" he said.
"The collaborative approach from both the GVFL and KDFNL in particular has led to an outcome of great benefit to both parties in terms of guaranteed coverage which will greatly assist their planning and budgeting."
"The deal includes minimum number of broadcast games, the setting of delivery standards, increased cross promotion activities and the confirmation of the Saturday morning pre game radio shows."
"The One FM product continues to evolve and we look forward to further developing our working relationship with the committed team at One FM."
Jason Welsh, One FM’s General Manager, Operations, is looking forward to furthering an already strong partnership.
"This landmark three year deal strongly represents our organization’s long term commitment to promoting local football across the Goulburn Murray region."
"Our football coverage is a major project that we undertake and it is important for our management and key stakeholders that there is a clear direction when it comes to programming and the commitment of our station’s resources."
"We are very pleased with the outcome of negotiations and our team is looking forward to the season’s commencement in a few weeks time."
GOTAFE GVFL Chairman David Roff is excited about what the deal means for GVFL’s fans.
"After the success that One FM had in their award winning 2015 season and our own ambitions to continue to grow our media profile we are pleased to commit to a longer term" he said.
"One FM has been a great broadcast partner on match day and we are pleased that we will be guaranteed at least one GVFL game broadcast live each week for each of the next three seasons."
"The deal also confirms the continuance of the popular Saturday Morning show including U18 and netball segments which are enjoyed by clubs, players, volunteers and supporters alike."
Wayne Ryan, KDFNL President, highlights the exposure the deal will give to his League.
"The One FM Grand Final coverage is a great accompaniment to our big day for all KDFNL followers and gives the league great exposure right across the region" he said.
"The opportunity to have a weekly radio show and an additional three home and away games during the season also provides promotion to our clubs and League within the broader community."
SDJFL President Chris Thomas acknowledges that the coverage provided for the U16 Grand Final is a great boost for local junior football.
"The kids playing get a real thrill out of being involved in a live broadcast game and it opens up an audience that many not normally follow junior football."
"Also the pregame show offers our league an opportunity to thank all those involved who support the league and junior clubs in our competition."
