The continued success of the Murray Bushrangers Youth Girls Academy has been highlighted again with seven girls named in the initial Victoria Country Youth Girls Squad.
The quality of coaching has also been acknowledged with Murray Bushrangers Youth Girls Head Coach, Sam Ahmet, being appointed as Senior Assistant Coach for the Victoria Country team.
The Championships, which are to be played in Melbourne from 2-5th of May, are the pinnacle of the Youth Girls competitions around the country.
AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager and local Female programs manager, Trevor Mellington, is delighted by the recognition for the region.
"Seeing seven girls named in the initial squad from our Academy is really satisfying and demonstrates the improvement in our top end talent," he said.
Coach, Sam Ahmet, is also impressed by the results that the Academy seems to be facilitating.
"We are only in our second year of operation but these selections really highlight the phenomenal rate of improvement that has occurred through the Academy program and with the growth of our Youth Girls competitions regionally," he said.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time developing these girls as footballers. Our region is strongly reflecting the national growth of the female game and we are well placed to provide significant input in to any new National competition as it is rolled out".
Vic Country will compete in Division 1 of the Championships against Vic Metro, Western Australia and Queensland.
The squad’s first training commitment will be this Saturday 16th January at the North Melbourne football club.
