After a one year recess the Echuca Reconciliation Day returns to Victoria Park, Echuca Wednesday 16 September.
Paul Clarke, the Event Coordinator and Koorie Engagement Support Officer for Echuca, has returned to the region and put the spotlight firmly back on this important inclusion activity.
"This event is an important sport and community partnership and Reconciliation is such an important concept for our young people to understand."
"We are really delighted to have some current and former AFL players assisting on the day, including Andrew Walker and Ollie Wines, who will coach the respective teams in the main football game."
"Their participation, along with that of Netball Victoria representatives, really adds to the experience for the children."
"Students not involved in playing in the main football or netball games will rotate through a series of workshops including a reptile show, indigenous cultural experience and a presentation from staff members of the Carlton Football Club."
AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager Trevor Mellington has been assisting Mr Clarke with the organisation of the event which is proudly sponsored by AFL Victoria, Reconciliation Victoria, Njernda Aboriginal Corporation, Moama Bowling Club, Cohuna Campaspe LLEN and the Campaspe Shire.
"Around 900 Grade 5 and 6 students from Echuca, Moama and Kyabram will be involved on the day in a range of football and netball clinics and games."
"The event is an outstanding program and I am delighted to work with an event which utilises football and netball as the vehicle to facilitate social change and understanding."
"The involvement of Carlton Football Club staff in the event supports their own Reconciliation Action Plan which presents an exciting opportunity for the region.
"Secondary School students from St Joseph’s College, Echuca, will also assist with the delivery of clinics and the umpiring of matches."
"At the end of the day, if we can expose our young people to experiences that encourage them to talk about and live the philosophies of Reconciliation, then the day has been a success".
