Stanhope Primary School welcomed the arrival of new goal posts on the school oval with the new ‘Big Sticks’ installed on Friday 4 September.
A partnership between AFL Victoria, AFL Schools, Stanhope Football Netball Club, HW Greenham and Sons and the school allowed for the removal of the old, deformed posts and the purchase and installation of the new ones.
School Principal Christine Owen is grateful for the team effort that allowed the project to become reality.
"We are all looking forward to playing Aussie Rules all year round" she said.
"The new posts have only been installed for a few days and we have already seen a massive increase in the use of the school oval by students."
"Its been a real boost and for our daily whole school PE program AFL 9s is a regular feature which makes excellent use of our new additions."
Stanhope Primary School AFL Ambassador Angela Holleran recognises the significant role AFL plays within the local community.
"My childhood memories are of the time spent watching my dad playing footy, going to family days and being with my school friends."
"AFL unites communities and being involved gives our students a real sense of belonging."
"The students have been involved in playing AFL 9s and the new goal posts will help to keep our kids active and engaged in physical activity."
