Junior League Finals have been in full swing with bumper gate takings received at Shepparton DJFL for their first 3 days of finals.
A snapshot of development activities across the past month include:
• 11 sessions of "Outside The Locker Room" were delivered with most of these having completed their 2nd or 3rd Workshop. Positive feedback from the clubs involved continues to highlight the enormous impact that this program is having in the region.
• A "Priorities" document has been produced for each of the13 KDFL clubs.
Auskick
• Final numbers for Auskick regsitrations for 2015 is 2058.
• We now have a total of 50 Auskick Centers in the Goulburn Murray region.
• Nominations have been entered for our Auskick Volunteer of the Year Award and we eagerly await the outcome of this nomination.
• 2016 ordering for centres has already commenced with planning well underway for another big season.
Schools
• The Sporting Schools Programs is continuing to operate at seven different Primary Schools.
• A Girls Secondary Football Round Robin competition was held at Rochester for 7 schools from Echuca, Kyabram, Nathalia and Rochester. This is the first year that all 7 member schools of the Campaspe Secondary School Sports Association have been represented in this competition and this augers well for the continued growth of our Youth Girls Competition.
• Rushworth P-12 school has received funding from AFL Victoria Development for the Supply and delivery of a Senior set of Goalposts. Stanhope PS has also received funding from AFL Victoria for a Primary School set of goalposts. In both instances the local football clubs are involved in either the installation or by contributing some funds which has enabled their purchase.
• St Mary’s of The Angels Nathalia has been declared winners of our regional Sun Country Cup after their opponents, Wodonga Catholic College, was forced to forfeit due to a variety of impacting issues. Trev presented the Cup and medallions to the winning school. An AFL 9’s competition was held for the Alpine cluster of schools in Seymour for 4 teams. Numerous AFL 9’sclinic have been held across the region.
• Our regional nominations for Multicultural School Ambassador of the Year and Female School Ambassador of the Year have been submitted to AFL Victoria.
• We have 9 schools competing in an AFL 9s cluster at Katandra West on the 15th of September with around 220 primary school students. We also have 50 year 10 & 11 students from Notre Dame College coordinating the day with coaching, umpiring and administrating in the event.
Masters Football
• As a result of the game played in Shepparton, Chops has been busy organising a "club" for season 2016. A committee & office bearers has been formed for the Over 35s Masters team.
• The GV Giants shall be the official playing name of the newly formed club with further announcements to come over the next couple of weeks.
AAA Meeting
• Carnival at Mooroopna FG to be held on September 2nd. Organisational matters discussed and delegated. Eg umpires wards etc. Five teams involved. Up from 4 last year.
GMCA
• The 28th Annual Dinner of GMCA will be held on October 7th at major sponsor Barooga Sports Clubs "Garden Room". Coach of the Year voting cards have been distributed to the 13 Committee members. . . Invitations & Guest tickets have also been mailed out. Any AFL GM Commissioners please let Martin know if they would like to attend. Catering necessitates RSVP by no later than Monday September 28th.
Umpiring
A very successful night was held at Shepparton Swans club rooms with guest speakers Hayden Kennedy and Chelsea Roffey attending, the dinner saw 95 umpires attending the night.
Presentation for the young multicultural diverse umpires program shall be presented with certificates at their school assemblies at the end of term 3. 6 of these students have continued on from the program and I see there names running games with the GVFUA every weekend.
VLine Cup
• Planning for the Carnival continues with buses booked, apparel assembled and ready for distribution
• Training has commenced for those boys not involved in finals or eliminated from finals.
• The Youth Girls team was recently announced with representation from all 5 SDJFL member teams. Training will resume on 7th September with finals having been run and won. A Trial game has been scheduled for Sunday 13th September against the North East Border team with this match to be played at Yarrawonga
• Certificates for all those coaches who attended & passed our Level 1 courses this year has been mailed out.. AFL Vic Country rebates have been lodged for the $50 rebates on behalf of our clubs.
• Sparra has sent out an updated accreditation status template to all League administrators to try and facilitate compliance across the region with finals approaching. Unfortunately, there are still a number of clubs with unaccredited coaches across the region. This information has been provided to the relevant Leagues for their follow up. He has followed this up with a note to Leagues that they have the have the power to fine or deduct premiership points to clubs who continue to disregard mandatory coaching accreditation. This is as per Rule 16.0 (a) of the 201 AFL Vic Country Handbook. No response has followed from Leagues.
• Chops has continued running a Multicultural AFL 9s program at Sirius College in Shepparton. As a result of this pilot, a team has been invited to compete in Melbourne later this month at an All Nations tournament.
• FDM’s have been attending a number of Presentation Nights/Vote Counts across the region, in some cases speaking, presenting or counting votes on behalf of the Leagues.
