A strong contingent of 22 girls has been selected to represent the Goulburn Murray at the Country Youth Girls Championships in Gippsland at the end of September.
The team is represented by players from each of the five Shepparton DJFL Youth Girls Teams.
The girls will play two games against opposition from the Peninsula region and the Western District at the Championships after undertaking an educational Development Day with players from all other seven regional teams on Tuesday 29 September.
AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager Trevor Mellington sees the Championships as a crucial development opportunity for the selected girls.
"These girls are going to be exposed to some high level football education around game sense, specific skill development and sports psychology" he said.
"The development they get from playing two high standard games will only be further enhanced by the elite educational program off field."
Kyabram’s Youth Girls Coach Mick Power will coach the team and is excited by the growing Youth Girls talent pool in the region
"The addition of the Northern Angels this season has really added to the talent pool in the region and this is reflected in selection" he said.
"The establishment of a Youth Girls Academy has also helped immensely and the girls have really responded to the training and more focused skill development sessions that they have received."
"The team will round out preparations for the championships with two more training sessions at Lancaster and a trial game against the North East Border at Yarrawonga on Sunday 13 September."
