A public meeting has seen the establishment of a Masters football club to be based in Shepparton.
The historic meeting, held at AFL Goulburn Murray, was attended by over 20 people with a further 30 or so registering their apologies on being unable to make it.
AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager Mark Lambourn commenced proceedings on the night.
“Last night’s meeting was a result of the momentum generated from the Vic Country v Vic Metro State Championship held at Deakin Reserve in June” he said.
“We have had an overwhelming response to the suggestion of forming a Shepparton based club and it was great to see it all come together last night.”
“AFL Masters President Wayne Hall attended the meeting along with some members of the Echuca Moama United Masters team who were able to give their insight into the playing format and the social side of Master football.”
New elected President Jon Griffin is excited to lead the new beginning.
“I am honoured to have been elected as the President of this new club” he said.
“We already have a committee of seven people who are keen to make this work and I am really looking forward to us mapping out the future of this historic club.”
“We will have our next committee meeting in the coming fortnight to discuss club name, colours, home ground, finance and of course some onfield matters as well.”
“There is a lot of work to do but as a club we already have a commitment to focus on the mental well being of our members as well as the physical opportunity to participate in our great game.”
“The club will represent the Greater Shepparton district and we are looking forward to bringing old foes that have played with and against each other over the years under the one banner as team mates.”
“Once we have our off field structure in place we will put out the recruitment call and commence some sort of pre season so that we are ready to go for Round 1 2016.”
