FDM Report – July
A huge day of Girls Football and a fantastic new Multicultural initiative are two of the big highlights for the development staff in July.
A snapshot of development activities across the past month include:
Club Football
• 13 sessions of “Outside The Locker Room” were delivered with most of these having reached the Workshop 2 phase. The use of Actors from the local Shepparton group Initial Stages has really value added to the effectiveness of this program. Positive feedback from the clubs involved highlights the enormous impact that this program is having in the region.
• Ongoing discussions with clubs, volunteers and coaches about the Community Club Sustainability Program. Data is now flowing in to help shape any suggestions or decisions moving forwards.
• Sparra has now completed all 13 Junior Development meetings with the KDFNL clubs with all clubs now having greater direction in their junior development priorities
Auskick
• Auskick programs continue to wind up with some really impressive sessions being conducted around the region. Trev attended the final session at Rochester with every senior footballer on hand to assist with skills, drills and umpiring.
• There were smiles aplenty with participants from Echuca, Rochester, Yea, Seymour, Moama, Echuca United and Tongala all playing at Etihad during half time of the Collingwood vs Western Bulldogs game.
• 2016 ordering for centres has already commenced with planning well underway for another big season.
Schools
• The release of the Sporting Schools Program by the Australian Sports Commission has been well received with Melissa and Chops coordinating sessions that have already commenced at seven different Primary Schools.
• Opportunities still exist for Game Development Officers to get involved and earn some cash in support of these programs.
• St Mary’s of The Angels Nathalia has been declared winners of our regional Sun Country Cup after their opponents, Wodonga Catholic College, was forced to forfeit due to a variety of impacting issues. Trev presented the Cup and medallions to the winning school.
Masters Football
• As a result of the game played in Shepparton, Chops has been busy gathering some interest and possible committee members to get a Shepparton based Over 45s Masters team started with lots of expressions of interest flowing in. The inaugural meeting of this group will occur on Monday 3 August.
Umpiring
• A very successful umpires evening was conducted on 29 July with guest speakers Hayden Kennedy and Chelsea Roffey. Chops was the main organiser of this event in working with the GVFUA.
VLine Cup
• Sparra coordinated a meeting with coaches to develop a training and preparation schedule leading up to the championships in September/October.
• Two very successful Practice matches against the Ovens and Murray squads were held at Wangaratta.
• The Girls team fired up with a training run at Lancaster on 27 July which was really well attended with many new faces to our competition this year being invited to join the squad.
• Mick Power and Greg Shannon joined the FDM’s in Melbourne on 23rd July at an information session about the Championships which included a presentation from Carlton Assistant Coach, Rob Wiley. Other items on the agenda included: Club Sustainability update, a presentation around recent diversity programs in the AFL, updates around the changes and improvements to the Swisse Community Club Improvement Program, Information around Auskick strategies for next year, and a presentation of strategic priorities for the growth of female football.
Coach Education
• Level 1 paperwork has been finalised for coaches that attended the 2015 courses. Of the 116 who enrolled in the two courses 113 of them have already completed their accreditation.
• Sparra has sent out an updated accreditation status template to all League administrators to try and facilitate compliance across the region with finals approaching. Unfortunately, there are still a number of clubs with unaccredited coaches across the region. This information has been provided to the relevant Leagues for their follow up.
Other
• Over 160 Girls representing 8 Primary Schools participated in a hugely successful Girls Football Competition held in Moama on 21st July. Trev worked closely with the local SEDA students to deliver this day.
• Chops has been running a Multicultural AFL 9s program at Sirius College in Shepparton. As a result of this pilot, a team has been invited to compete in Melbourne later this month at an All Nations tournament.
• Sparra joined forces with Valley Sport to conduct an Access All Abilities clinic at Mansfield on 15th July.
• Chops and Sparra attended the Partners in Football & Netball night held at the Terminus in Shepparton on 27th July as a thank you to all sponsors in the GVFL, KDFNL, Shepp DJFL and Seymour DJFNL
