After an outstanding first year of operation, the Murray/Bendigo Academy will wind up with a final training run at the Lancaster Recreation Reserve on Monday 15 June commencing at 5.30pm.
The final session will be headlined by an appearance from Victorian Women’s Football team representative, Katie Brennan.
Katie was Best on Ground for the Western Bulldogs team that was narrowly defeated by the Melbourne FC at the recent AFL women’s game in Melbourne.
However, her performance caught the eye of selectors and she impressed enough to be picked to play for the Victorian team that tackled Western Australia as a curtain raiser to the Fremantle vs Richmond game on Friday 5 June in Perth.
After running around with the girls for training, Katie will present all of the girls with their team photos and will also give a brief presentation about her journey as a female player.
Having grown up in Queensland, Katie is well used to overcoming barriers associated with participation in football and her story is sure to inspire the players.
AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager Trevor Mellington, is really grateful for the appearance of Katie.
"Being the last session of the inaugural year of the Academy it will be important to reinforce the key messages of the program and to highlight the extraordinary progress of the girls" he said.
"Having such a positive role model speak to our girls will really motivate them and provide them with the incentive to follow their dreams and aspire to play at the highest level."
"Its been a great program of learning and development and I am sure Katie will be impressed with the standard and enthusiasm of the Academy squad."
