The GOTAFE GVFL team was beaten by the Geelong Football League in a rematch from 2013.
The game was reminiscent of the clash in 2013 as Geelong had control of the 1st quarter but this time failed to capitalise kicking 8 behinds in a dominant display.
The 2nd term saw the GOTAFE GVFL pinch a handy 14 point lead heading into the main break, keeping Geelong Goal less in the process.
The third and fourth quarter were well and truly won by Geelong with inaccurate kicking keeping the hopes of the strong home crowd alive.
Coach Travis Ryan was disappointed to not get the win but acknowledged that Geelong were too good on the day.
“If it wasn’t for inaccurate kicking by the Geelong guys the game would have been over at quarter time”
“The 2nd quarter our guys were terrific, but you can’t play in patches at this level, you need to be up and about the whole game”
“We had a few late withdrawals from our team but that’s football and I had the belief that this team could get the job done”
Benalla’s Sam Martyn was judge best afield for the GOTAFE GVFL Team, whilst Dane McFarlane was acknowledged as Geelong’s best.
