In an amazing example of endurance and loyalty, Girgarre stalwart Brett Hobbs will line up for his 400th game for Girgarre this Saturday afternoon when they take on Merrigum at Girgarre Recreation Reserve.
Hobbs moved from the Echuca East Football Club to Girgarre in 1993 after being talked into it by friends.
"Coming to Girgarre Football Netball Club has been a great move for me and my family" he said.
"When I first arrived, it was just myself and my girlfriend. Now I am married and have two children who both now play at Girgarre, Branden in the thirds and Sharni in the 15 & Under netball."
"One of my biggest highlights was playing senior football with my son Branden last year. I never thought that I would ever get the chance and I thank Patto (Coach Mark Patten) very much for that opportunity."
"During my time at Girgarre, both myself and my wife have made some lifelong friends and I now play footy with some of their children."
"I also have had the privilege of playing footy with the young kids that I have coached and the club has been great to me and my family and I hope that my children continue to play at Girgarre for many years to come."
Brett has currently played 269 senior games and 130 reserves games.
Highlights of Brett's career at Girgarre and his contribution to the club are as follows:
Started playing at Girgarre in 1993
Joined the committee in the late 1990's
Thirds coach 2000-2002, 2012-2014
Reserves coach 2003 (played finals) and 2004
Assistant coach Under 14 Girgarre/Stanhope team
Club President 2006-2008
Many years as Vice President
Club life membership awarded in 2007
KDFNL President Wayne Ryan was quick to acknowledge a significant achievement.
"To play 400 games is a milestone in itself but to play 400 games at the one club is just terrific" he said.
"Brett has shown himself to be a great role model over a long period of time and on behalf of the Executive and all clubs in the League I would like to congratulate him on this great achievement and wish him well for the weekend."
