GVFUA stalwart Wayne Hamilton will run out on the field as a central umpire in the seniors for the 504th time this Saturday afternoon when he officiates in the GOTAFE GVFL clash between Shepparton Swans and Echuca at Princess Park.
Hamilton’s milestone will take him past current GVFUA Advisor Chris McCallum who holds the current record at 503 senior games.
GVFUA President Darren Meek was glowing in praise of Hamilton’s massive achievement.
"This is an absolutely fantastic achievement by a member of our association" he said.
"Wayne is one of the most respected senior central umpires in the GVFUA as well as being a member of the GVFUA executive."
"He has now been officiating for more than thirty years and is also getting very close to the incredible mark of 800 games as an umpire."
Current record holder Chis McCallum also praised the man who will take his title.
"I am very proud to be handing the baton over to Wayne as the highest games record holder" he added.
"Wayne’s longevity in the game as a central umpire illustrates his umpiring skills and the rapport that he generates amongst the players on field."
"His skills and attitude to the game set him apart from many others, he is very popular in the umpiring ranks and in the game overall and I’m looking forward to him continuing his career and helping to mentor the next generation."
