The KDFNL’s interleague football and netball coaching panels have been finalized following the appointment of netball legend Julie Telford as senior netball coach.
Telford, who is coaching Tallygaroopna this season, joins Merrigum ace Christian Barnett as the two pivotal leaders to drive the football and netball interleague assault on the Mininera League on 23 May.
To describe Telford’s career as star studded would be understatement. She is a Shepp Swans Hall of Famer and member of the Team of All Stars and first played A Grade as a 13 year old. Alongside multiple Best and Fairest awards has played in State League, Championships, Country Cup, Regionals, State Titles and as a GVNL Representative.
Her coaching career commenced at the age of 18 and she has high ambition for the interleague team "I am proud to have been appointed as interleague coach and I am keen to assemble the best of the best from our league" she commented.
"I am a big supporter of interleague and by being the main netball game on the day it is a great opportunity to showcase our talents on court and come away with a win."
"I have pretty much played coached most of my adult life and I really enjoy working with players to provide the best assistance I can to enjoy and improve their netball."
Barnett, the playing coach of Merrigum is also pumped about playing the curtainraiser to the GVFL v GFL clash at Deakin Reserve "there is a lot of excitement that comes from representative football" he noted "the chance to play with the best of the best is a great honour."
"The League has made some vital changes regarding the bylaw's regarding the participation of players in interleague and this was a positive influence in my decision to coach."
"I am excited to work with high calibre Assistant Coaches such as Linc Sullivan, Paul Burnett, Russell Lee and Brenton Grey. They all have great senior coaching experience, a passion for improvement and a will to win."
"This is the best interleague coaching structure that we have had for a number of years" added KDFNL President Wayne Ryan. "We have great leaders in charge of both sports and we are focused on representing the League with pride and performance."
"The football program will commence on 6 May with training at Merrigum and netball trials will be held at the Shepparton Netball Association courts on Monday 27 April."
