AFL Goulburn Murray, in conjunction with the Goulburn Valley Football Umpire’s Association, is running a series of training seminars over the next month for the benefit of club volunteer umpires.
Three sessions will be held in three separate locations across the region targeted at local umpires who work as club volunteers and officiate as central umpires in senior and/or junior football leagues.
The first session will be held at Barooga Sports Club on Wednesday 25 March for northern based umpires, the second one on Wednesday 15 April at AFL Goulburn Murray and the third at the Seymour Club on Wednesday 22 April for umpires based in the southern part of the region. Umpires will only need to attend one session.
“This initiative has been developed following feedback from clubs and leagues to provide training to support volunteers who are required to umpire on match day” commented GVFUA President Darren Meek. “We want to help those who are umpiring with a few pointers for the benefit of the umpires involved and the game overall.”
“Each session will be delivered by members of our Umpire coaching department with the idea being to provide some basic training to club umpires to assist them in officiating games on the weekend.”
“Information will be presented on positioning, managing the game and reporting procedures with an open discussion also held for those present to raise questions and to trouble shoot any issues that the umpires face.”
“The sessions overlap the start of the season to allow umpires to immediately implement their learning and for umpires to bring forward issues that they may face in the first couple of rounds.”
