Murray Bushrangers Head Coach Darren Ogier and Bendigo Pioneers Assistant Luke Moody will each work with local players at the KDFNL U18 Development Day to be held on Sunday 22 March.
The two sessions will involve the U18 players from each KDFNL clubs with Ogier running a session at Nagambie featuring the southern based clubs and Moody doing the same at Merrigum for the western KDFNL clubs.
As well as skills training component each program will involve discussions on umpiring, a presentation to all players from headspace Shepparton’s General Manager Caroline French and a session from local Police youth development experts on risk taking and the challenges facing 16-18 year olds in the community.
The program is the brainchild of KDFNL Executive member Doug Tuhan "with the season only a few weeks away, this initiative is designed to bring all of our U18 players together for some important training."
"With the calibre of speakers we have coming on the day we want to assist the clubs in providing more than just football training to their players."
"It will also be a great professional development day for the League’s U18 coaches as well as the players."
"The day will have a very strong player welfare focus" continued AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager Greg Liddell "the headspace session will discuss the mental health needs of players in that age group and the Police session will focus on risk taking and issues facing local youth."
"The TAC Cup coaches will each run a high level skill development session which will be a great opportunity for the players to learn from the elite youth coaches in the region."
"All clubs have committed to the program and by running two simultaneous sessions we are able to run smaller groups to increase the learning opportunity for the players."
