Eight players from the Hawthorn Football Club will travel to Barooga as part of the Goulburn Murray Region AFL Player Visit Program for 2015.
The visit, to take place on Friday 20 March, will see players undertake a Super Clinic for Primary Schools at the Barooga Football Club in the morning commencing at 10.30am, before visiting the Secondary Schools and Cobram Specialist School after lunch.
Secondary Schools and the Specialist School will use the players in the afternoon to run small football clinics, undertake Question & Answer sessions, provide information around diet, nutrition and training, and speak about the value of leadership.
The Hawthorn players will be assisted by students from the Cobram Secondary College who are undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh Award in the morning Super Clinic. The students will work as assistant coaches and help run the Activity Stations before the players speak directly to senior students in the Secondary setting after lunch.
This particular visit will also be supported by Netball Victoria who will be running two Activity Stations in conjunction with the Football Clinic with Melbourne Vixens players also attending.
"We will be using our allocated players to speak to our 7-12 students about goal-setting, self -discipline and commitment to reach your fullest potential" commented Cobram Anglican Grammar AFL School Ambassador Jon O’Dwyer.
To coincide with Harmony Day activities in Cobram the next day the visit will also have a strong multicultural focus with AFL Multicultural Ambassador and Hawks premiership player Paul Puopolo making the trip to run a special session with members of the local multicultural community.
