The Goulburn Valley Football Umpires Association have announced their coaching structure for the 2015 season with new and familiar faces taking the responsibility for training of on field officials.
The new structure will be outlined at the umpire’s first seminar for the season to be held after training (at 7:45pm) this Thursday evening at the GVFUA club rooms at Chas Johnson Reserve.
Gary Hosie is the new face to the coaching panel and as the Shepparton fitness coach will take responsibility for the training of umpires and developing their fitness to maximise performance. Chris McCullum continues as the Umpire’s Advisor with Ian Bull supporting this key education role as an Assistant Advisor. GVFUA Vice President Brett Hancock (Boundary) and John Parnell (Goals) round out the panel as the specialist coaches.
"As part of our coaching program we run a monthly seminar with a particular rule or scenario as a focus" highlighted Umpire’s Advisor Chris McCullum "These sessions discuss specific rules and interpretations as well as allowing for an open mic style interactive discussion on specific situations umpires find themselves in on match day."
"The monthly seminars compliment the week in week out work of coaches who run training drills and give specific instruction, coaching and mentoring to individuals to assist their development."
"The Umpires Association is once again looking forward to a big season" added GVFUA President Darren Meek "our coaching structure is very focused on delivering quality education for the umpires as well as providing a fun and enjoyable environment at training."
"There are also other initiatives that are helping to grow our umpiring numbers and provide training opportunities such as the target of setting up running groups in Mansfield and Seymour to help local umpires maintain their training with less travel commitment."
"We have a number of new recruits on board and pre season numbers have been good at training so far. Having said that there are still lots of opportunities for interested umpires and we strongly encourage anyone interested in umpiring to come along to a session and join in training."
