Following Michael O’Dwyer’s retirement after 21 years in charge, AFL Goulburn Murray is excited to announce Scott Watson as the new VLine Cup Head Coach.
Watson, the current Euroa FNC President, has previously coached the School Sport Victoria U15 Victorian Schoolboys team from 2000 to 2006 and is an active committee member of the Goulburn Murray Coaches Association.
"As Principal at Euroa Secondary College, Watson also has a wealth of experience working with boys at this age level" commented AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager Greg Liddell. "He possesses excellent communication skills and is a valuable acquisition to the region’s VLine program."
"The appointment follows an extensive interview process with a high quality field applying for the position."
"Greg Laidlaw, Gary Kitto and Peter Bingham have all been re-appointed as Assistant Coaches of the Goulburn Murray 1 side. Their wealth of experience at this level will be of immense support to Scott in his first year."
Long serving Goulburn Murray 2 Head Coach, Greg Shannon has also been reappointed and he will be ably assisted by Sean Harrap, Russell Byrnes and Phil Guthrie.
"Russell and Sean have been previously been involved in this capacity and are valued Assistant Coaches" continued Liddell. "Phil Guthrie has had a wealth of playing experience with Shepparton Bears FNC and this, combined with his experience at the Academy of Sport, Health and Education ensures he will be a valuable addition to the GM2 team."
Mick Power has also been appointed as the Head Coach of the Goulburn Murray Subway Shield Youth Girls program. Power, the current Assistant coach of the Bushrangers/Pioneers Youth Girls Academy, will be supported by Assistant Coaches Phil McKenna and Brittany Tancred.
"Goulburn Murray Football Development Managers are delighted to have such a talented and dedicated coaching panel mentoring the Under 15 boys and Under 17 Girls teams at this year’s Carnivals" rounded out Liddell.
