Echuca United, Marysville and Mooroopna are the final winners of the 2014 NAB AFL Auskick Centre of the Month sponsored by Fonterra.
Echuca United
Echuca United Auskick Coordinator Daryl Poole does a fantastic job running the largest Auskick centre in the Northern region. He engages a large band of helpers to run organised and effective sessions for over 140 participants.
The senior football club is actively involved to provide coaching support and Daryl has been a key driver in the formation of the Auskick Extension program which has been established for the first time this season.
"Echuca United Auskick has consistently attracted the highest number of participants over the past few years" notes AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager Trevor Mellington. "The Friday night under lights experience provides all participants with a novel football experience that appeals to both parents and players."
"Daryl is an enthusiastic and committed leader of the centre. He has shown initiative in helping drive the local extension program and he is a strong advocate for providing opportunities for participants to engage in Melbourne Auskick experiences."
Marysville
Sherrie Ackerman is in her fourth year as Co-Ordinator at Marysville. She started the Auskick Centre following the Bushfires that swept through her town resulting in devastation of many homes and properties.
Whilst she does not have children of her own she has formed the centre to have a strong link with the local Primary School and Football club.
Sherrie enlists the support of local parents and the local football club to run her sessions. She is extremely well organised and prepared and has also organised visits to half time AFL games to enable her registered Auskickers to participate in grid games and experience playing on an AFL ground.
Mooroopna
Headed by Paul Brown and his dedicated committee have grown the Mooroopna Auskick centre over the past three years to 131 participants this year.
Sessions are run on Saturday morning and the organisation behind managing the sessions with coaches and helpers must be commended.
Sarah Sciuto who is the club secretary makes sure that all of the centres finances, registrations, payments, notifications and pack reconciliations are all accounted for at all times.
"The organisation of the centre is first rate" commented AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager Mark Lambourn.
"Early in the year before any of our Auskick Centres had even started our region was allocated an Auskick game at the MCG. After sending out an open invitation to all Centre’s in the region to fill this slot
Mooroopna Auskick Centre were the ones that made the most of this opportunity and worked tirelessly to get the numbers and fill that slot. Their initiative turned out to be a great promotional opportunity for the start of their season."
Congratulations to each centre and they will be presented with their award at an upcoming session.
