Strathmerton, St Brendan’s and Seymour are the June winners of the NAB AFL Auskick Centre of the Month sponsored by Fonterra.
Strathmerton
Luke Almond leads the Strathmerton Auskick program and has been hugely successful in engaging parents to help out and contribute to the delivery of sessions. As a result of his efforts and the successful delivery Strathmerton Auskick has grown from 19 last year to 30 participants this season.
"Luke is very keen to ensure that the participants get maximum benefits from their sessions" reports AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager Trevor Mellington. "He is constantly seeking to improve the quantity and quality of equipment and resources at the centre to ensure a positive learning experience is provided."
"The Centre has also actively encouraged girls participation and the centre’s participants attended the girls only initiative at Shepparton in May".
St Brendan’s
Cameron Whitzell has taken over the management of the St Brendan’s Auskick Centre this year from the long serving Grant McConkey. With 110 participants to manage Cameron succeeds through his passion and by being well organised.
"Cameron sets the program up with all children participating in their age group with a coach and team manager also appointed" commented AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager Mark Lambourn.
"He goes above and beyond expectations to provide participants with an experience they will always remember."
"Each child in the program receives a team photo of their age group and a participation medal which is presented in front of parents and their siblings at their end of program BBQ."
Seymour
Since Clayton Munro took over as Co-Ordinator of the Seymour Auskick in 2011 there has been a 44% growth in registrations from 66 in 2010 to 95 this year. This growth reflects the dedicated work that Clayton has put into the program.
Since he took on the reigns his focus has been on improving the quality of the centre. A key achievement in securing sponsorship has enabled the program to purchase an Auskick trailer and more resources to attract participants.
"Clayton has been very successful in enlisting parental support to fill coaching and assistant coaching roles" notes AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager Greg Liddell. "This allows for much smaller groups and therefore more individualised coaching of participants."
"He provides great leadership and organisational skills and conscientiously sets about providing a quality experience each week"
"Clayton was also instrumental in the recent Auskick Gala Day on June 21 supplying half the teams which participated."
Congratulations to each centre and they will be presented with their award at an upcoming session.
