The Merrigum Bulldogs will be out to keep their positive start to the Kyabram District Football League season going when they take on Lancaster in the WorkSafe Game of the Month this Sunday 18 May at Merrigum.
As the third WorkSafe Game of the Month for season 2014, the blockbuster has taken on greater meaning, with Hawthorn champion Peter Knights to be in attendance.
Knights will be the guest speaker at a special luncheon before presenting the winning senior football and netball teams with the "WorkSafe Cup" at the conclusion of the senior football match.
The champion defender played 264 matches with Hawthorn in a golden era for the club that yielded premierships in 1976, 1978 and 1983.
A member of the Hawthorn Team of the Century, Knights is considered one of the game’s greatest ever centre half backs.
AFL Goulburn Murray General Manager Martin Gleeson said it was great to have the WorkSafe of the Month come to Merrigum.
"The WorkSafe Games of the Month are a highlight on the country footy calendar."
"It should be a great day with two teams who enjoy such a long standing fierce rivalry, and to have Peter Knights and WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country Manager Brett Connell in attendance will just add to the excitement."
