AFL Goulburn Murray is pleased to announce the appointment of three Ambassadors as part of the AFL Multicultural Community Ambassador program in 2014.
The aim of the program is to further engage multicultural communities in Australian football through a network of dedicated volunteers.
AFL General Manager, People, Customer and Community Dorothy Hisgrove said the ambassadors will represent the many diverse cultures in Australia with a record number of volunteers this year from all states and territories.
"Each ambassador has been selected based on their community leadership skills and enthusiasm to share their passion for AFL with diverse communities, using Australian football as a vehicle for engagement and inclusion," said Ms. Hisgrove.
The program will provide community leaders with an official platform to become involved in the introduction and coordination of AFL related programs in their communities as well as opportunities for professional development, including the chance to win a national award which recognises the ambassador of the year.
The three Goulburn Murray Ambassadors are:
- Dr Imran Syed (Shepparton). Founder of the Sadaat Foundation – a multicultural, multi ethnic, faith based organisation representing the Islamic Community.
- Tong Tong (Shepparton). Emerging young footballer with Shepparton Bears
- Dr Navita Mysore (Echuca). Emergency Department Doctor at the Echuca Regional Hospital
