Puckarook U16 onballer Matthew Ranger has been selected to represent the U15 Victorian All Nations team at the Indigenous and Multicultural Championships in Coffs Harbour NSW from 11-16 April.
Coached by former AFL star David Rodan, now AFL Victoria’s Multicultural Projects Officer, the final squad includes boys from Sudan, Fiji, Philippines, Korea, Liberia and Ethiopia.
Matthew, born in the Philippines is excited about his selection "I feel both privileged and honoured to be representing my state and hope we can come home with the cup."
Victoria’s All Nations Program commenced in February with a series of regional trials held at 10 locations across Victoria.
From the trials, 30 talented multicultural boys were invited to a High Performance Camp based at the Richmond Football Club.
During the two-day camp, players underwent fitness testing and played a practice match at Punt Road Oval.
Following the High Performance Camp, 20 players progressed to the State Camp conducted at North Melbourne Football Club.
Over the course of the State Camp, players participated in training sessions; attended an AFL game; and listened to guest speakers including AFL Australia Post Multicultural Ambassadors Bachar Houli and Majak Daw, along with as Talent Id Managers Anton Grbac, Leon Harris and Darren Flannigan.
Players also presented to the squad on matters including their family life, culture, other interests and talents outside football.
