Seven Goulburn Murray football clubs are amongst the 38 successful recipients of grants under Round 1 of the AFL Victoria Country’s Football Infrastructure Program (FIP).
The FIP assists clubs wanting to develop specific football infrastructure of the type which can often be difficult to receive financial support from larger government grant programs. Grants of up to a maximum of $10,000 per project are available to those clubs which meet the criteria in their applications.
AFL Victoria’s Government Partnerships and Facilities Manager Shayne Ward acknowledged the overwhelming popularity of this year’s FIP. "38 AFL Victoria Country affiliated clubs have been made an offer of funding, adding up to $249,650 in Round 1 which will contribute to over $600,000 in total infrastructure development."
"The criteria used to assess applications included the extent that an application demonstrated local support (including local Council support), the anticipated project impact and the anticipated project urgency."
"Funding across the state included assisting electronic scoreboards, goal posts, behind goal netting, coaches boxes, facilities refurbishment, public address systems, non slip change room flooring, interchange benches, water upgrade to ovals and oval line markers."
"Unfortunately, not all applications were able to be funded and unsuccessful applicants will be advised on how they may strengthen their application for consideration under the next FIP round anticipated to be in late 2013."
AFL Goulburn Murray Region General Manager Martin Gleeson also supported the opportunity the FIP provides local clubs. "The Football Infrastructure Program is a great chance for clubs to access funding to enhance the club environment for their players, members and match day spectators."
"Grants are awarded up to a maximum dollar for dollar basis cost share with clubs also needing to demonstrate support from relevant stakeholders including local council. Scoreboards were a popular request this round with four of the seven Goulburn Murray clubs receiving grants for either new scoreboards or upgrades."
