The Goulburn Murray Regional Football Commission (GMRFC) has appointed its Regional General Manager. The GMRFC will be the body responsible for game development including increasing participation, supporting leagues and clubs, development of volunteers, improving pathways from junior to senior football and to advocate and collaborate on facility development.
Mr Nicholas Rolfe, Chairman of GMRFC said "We are delighted to announce that Mr Martin Gleeson has been appointed to this important and pivotal role for the Commission. Martin comes to us with an extensive background in sports administration and game development skills we believe are essential for this role"
Mr Gleeson’s appointment follows a very competitive process in which there were over 20 applications for this new position within the region. "Currently he is the Chief Executive Officer of the Sports Education Development India Ltd, a company with which he established strategies to build the operations of this company in the competitive Indian market.
Prior to taking up that positions with the International Cricket Council, Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria where he was a regional cricket manager during which time he was responsible for Cricket Victoria’s programs in inner eastern Melbourne to implement programs including participation, talent identification, club and volunteer development."
"We believe that Mr Gleeson’s previous experiences will help the commission in growing the game of Australian Rules Football within our region" Mr Rolfe indicated.
Mr Gleeson who is currently finishing his duties in India before repatriating to Australia in early May to begin the role said "I am excited to be taking on this new role. The Goulburn Murray has a very rich football history and I'm looking forward to working with administrators and the community to further grow the game and provide a quality experience for current players and new participants."
Mr Rolfe also said "We are also pleased to also announce that following advertising and interviews that Ms Bree Boyle has been appointed to the position of Leagues operations officer with the GMRFC. Bree’s role will be to support the KDFNL and the Shepparton Juniors in providing administrative support for these competitions. She currently supports the KDFNL and therefore we anticipate a smooth transition for the league."
This support is on a fee for service basis following negotiations with these leagues.
"The GMRFC will continue to discuss with the remaining leagues within the commission area relating to supporting their administrative functions over the next twelve months. While supporting leagues with administration is seen and an important role, the commission’s major role is that of game development and improving the numbers of people participating in football both at a league and individual club level."
"We are committed to achieving this with the support of all leagues and clubs within the Goulburn Murray Region" Mr Rolfe indicated.
