The Shepparton and District Junior Football League Youth Girls competition will increase in number for season 2015 with the League accepting an application from the Northern Angels Youth Girls Team to join the competition.
With the fantastic support from both the Nathalia Secondary College and St Mary’s Of The Angels Nathalia, this new team will essentially be a community team based out of the two Secondary Schools, with the Secondary College taking on the financial administration of the club.
The team has successfully secured an experienced youth boy’s coach in Phil McKenna. Nathalia Principal, John Sciacca, will wear the hat as President of the newly formed Club.
"I’m really excited to be coaching a team that will be representative of our broader community" commented Phil McKenna. "I have attended a number of games and can’t believe how enthusiastic and passionate these girls can be."
"I see this as a wonderful opportunity to provide a playing opportunity and really develop these players."
AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager Trevor Mellington recognises the significance of the addition of a new team. "With every new team comes a greater depth in our talent pool" he noted.
"With the evolution of our Subway Shield involvement and the implementation of our Academy Program, participants can see that there is a genuine and exciting pathway now for all players."
From the League perspective, President Chris Thomas reinforces the importance of growing the game and the community benefits of participation as key drivers in clubs accepting the Angel’s application.
"We received unanimous support from all clubs in the League to accept this new team in to our competition."
"The SDJFL continues to provide opportunities for both boys and girls to be involved in playing our great game."
An information session for all prospective players and their families will be conducted at Nathalia Secondary College on Wednesday 10th December 2014 at 1.00pm.
