After a training program which commenced in November last year the two teams which will represent Goulburn Murray in the 2014 U15 VLine Carnival commencing 7 April in Melbourne have been selected.
The teams were announced last night after training at Wanganui Park Secondary College to represent the region in the first step of the AFL Player Pathway.
Mick O’Dwyer, who is embarking on his 20th year in the role is looking forward to the upcoming challenge. “In the coming weeks we have practise matches at Heathcote against Ballarat and Barooga against Ovens & Murray. These will be important as we focus our preparations for the first game against Gippsland Power at Victoria Park on 7 April and Peninsula Stingrays at Bulleen Park the next day.”
“We are pleased with the tall and strong squad that has been selected and have been impressed with the training ethic and skill level of all the boys who have been involved.”
Newly appointed Team Manager Ryan Forsyth, who is the current Rennie FC Senior Coach, is filling in for one year for Shaun Kelly who is recovering from recent surgery. O’Dwyer and his co-selectors (Gary Kitto, Greg Laidlaw & Peter Bingham), has selected a strong, tall squad to represent the region in an effort to take this year’s V- Line title.
Goulburn Murray’s second Under 15 boys team, who will compete in Division 3 at the Championships, was also announced last night and will be coached by experienced Goulburn Murray Coaches Association President, Greg Shannon.
Shannon also leads a strong coaching panel which includes Sean Harrap & Russell Byrnes. The second Goulburn Murray team will play lead in practice games against Ballarat & Picola DFL Under 16 teams. The first 2 games for Goulburn Murray 2 will be against North Central Mallee at Victoria Park, Collingwood on April 7th and Geelong 2 at Bulleen Park on 8 April.
This year, for the first time, a third team will represent the Goulburn Murray at the V Line Carnival. The Youth Girls team, coached by David Pearson, has been working tirelessly with a squad of 30 girls in preparation for a new level of competition. The girls team will be announced after their practise match on 16 March.
