The Jack Eddy Oval in Echuca will be a hive of excitement this Friday 17 October as the annual Primary Schools Girls Football Competition is contested.
Echuca Primary School will look to defend their crown after dominating the competition last year.
Seven teams will contest this year’s competition with players drawn from eight regional Primary Schools. Schools from Echuca, Moama, Rochester and Lockington have submitted entries for the day.
In conjunction with AFL Goulburn Murray, the day is being convened by Shepparton AFL SEDA student, Brittany Tancred. The organisation of the day enables her to complete a major work requirement for her course.
"I am really grateful for the amount of cooperation from the local schools and their teachers. This should be a really exciting day, full of fun for all of the girls involved" commented Brittany.
Doubling as a promotional fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Network, Brittany is hoping that all of the participants get behind the Gold coin collection on the day that will see one lucky student walk away with a Shane Crawford signed football.
"The support of the Echuca Worker’s and Services Club as major sponsor, in particular, along with Intersport Bennetts has ensured that some valuable funds will be raised to support a really worthwhile charity," Tancred said.
AFL Goulburn Murray Football Development Manager Trevor Mellington, who is assisting with the organisation of the day, sees enormous potential in these types of events.
"A day like this really helps in the promotion of Youth Girls Football and hopefully motivates a number of the participants to seriously consider AFL as a genuine sporting option."
