The AFL Goulburn Murray Commission, in conjunction with the Seymour District Junior Football Netball League (SDJFNL), has commenced a review of the competition in response to club and league feedback on participation rates across the League.
A Review Panel has been established consisting of representatives from AFL Goulburn Murray, SDJFNL Executive, member clubs and Valley Sport.
AFL Goulburn Murray Region General Manager Martin Gleeson identified the review as an opportunity to consult with clubs and address a number of issues across the League. "This season has been the first year of the partnership between the League and the Region Administration Centre" he commented. "We now have a really positive working environment and this is a great opportunity to work with member clubs to address where the League is at what direction members would like to take."
"A gradual reduction in player numbers over the past few seasons, the inability of some clubs to field an U16 team, the introduction of an overage player rule for 2014 and generic feedback from clubs are all factors which have provided the impetus for an investigation."
"The League is unique in that it offers football and netball and feeds into five different senior Leagues and it is important that we are able to assist all clubs in offering participation opportunities for junior footballers and netballers."
"An agenda list of seven key questions developed in consultation with member clubs is forming the basis of the process with all clubs provided a one on one opportunity to provide input."
"Recommendations arising from the club meetings will be circulated to all stakeholders as a preliminary report for feedback before the final recommendations will be tabled for the League’s Annual General Meeting scheduled for 1 December."
The review is being conducted in accordance with Worksafe AFL Victoria Country Rule 4.7 (AFL Victoria Country Reviews – Implementation and Appeal).
