FAQ

When and where are the games played?

The Bridgetown Basketball Association (BBA) Competition plays on Thursdays at the Bridgetown Leisure Centre (BLC), Steere St, from 4–9pm with the youngest teams playing first.

Our Aussie Hoops program runs on Wednesdays, from 3.304.15pm, followed by our Fledgings League, 4.305.45pm.

Our Veterans League social half-court pick-up games run on Mondays from 67.30pm.

All run over summer from the beginning of Term 4 to the end of Term 1 of the following year (including Finals) with a break over the school summer holidays.

What are the age groups?

All ages are as of 31 December (mid-season):

Aussie Hoops: 67 years old
Fledglings (U10s): 89 years old
Sub Juniors (U13s): 1012 years old
Juniors (U16s): 1315 years old
Seniors: 16+ years old
Veterans: 35+ years old (can also play Seniors).

How do Juniors and Sub Juniors join a team?

The BBA organises registered Juniors and Sub Juniors into single-sex teams of a maximum of 8 players each. Players must register and pay by the registration closing date to allow time for BBA to organise the teams and fixtures. Coaching is provided by volunteer coaches. Each coach sets their own training day and time.

Email bridgetownbasketball1@gmail.com if you have specific training day/time or team requests (results not guaranteed  we will do our best to accommodate you but please remember we are trying to balance many factors in making up the teams).

Uniform

Uniform shirts are provided and must be returned at the end of the season (replacement cost is invoiced if shirt is not returned). Shorts must be black and without pockets. Players must wear a mouthguard. Jewellery and hair accessories (aside from plain hair ties) must be removed and fingernails must be cut short. These rules are for the safety of all players.

How do Seniors join a team?

Seniors organise their own teams and uniforms. Team captains must notify BBA of their teams by the registration closing date to allow time for BBA to set the fixtures (players on those teams must be registered and financial before the first game). Please email your team names and colours.

Mouthguards must be worn by Seniors aged under 18, and are recommended but optional for Seniors aged 18+. Jewellery and hair accessories (aside from plain hair ties) must be removed and fingernails must be cut short.

Seniors must provide their own warm-up ball.

Note for the social Veterans game, no team is necessary as a pick game format is followed.

If you're a single player looking for a team, or a group that needs a few more players to make up a full team, please register your interest. We are actively seeking new teams for the Comp.

I missed the registration closing date. Can I still register?

Please email bridgetownbasketball1@gmail.com to find out if there are any spots left on any teams. You may need to be placed on a waiting list. You can join Aussie Hoops or Veterans any time during the season.

How can I get involved?

Volunteer coaches, team managers, scorers, championship/carnival organisers, committee members etc are always welcome. Please contact bridgetownbasketball1@gmail.com.

What does the Bridgetown Basketball Association membership fee go towards?

BBA membership pays for court hire, umpiring, Junior and Sub Junior uniforms, equipment, transaction and other administrative costs, trophies/medals, and local coach, umpire and player development.

BBA is not-for-profit and organised entirely by volunteers (more helpers and/or donations are always welcome).

What is the Basketball WA affiliation fee?

From January 1 2019, all affiliated competition players must pay a yearly fee to Basketball WA. The fee covers player insurance, Basketball Australia licensing, association development and training, and the continuing development and promotion of basketball in WA. The fee covers you for a full calendar year and is only payable once no matter how many teams/associations you play for. It is paid directly to Basketball WA as part of the online registration process. None of this fee is kept by BBA.
