July 02, 2008
The newly formed American Samoa Association of Paddlers (ASAP) hosted their first organized paddling races this past Saturday, June 28th. According to ASAP Race Chair Elena Vaouli, "the event was extremely successful, with over 60 paddlers and support crews participating in 17 different races." Clubs representing government, private sector and community groups joined in the fun, including teams from the Feleti Barstow Library, ANZ Bank, AS-EPA and Team King. Team Tusi took the most honors, winning both the social women's and mixed team 250m sprints. Team King and Team EPA were also victorious, with Team King winning the social mixed 500m sprints and Team EPA winning the social mixed 500m turn races. V1 500m winners were John Goeke in the Men's Category and Betty Herdrich in the Women's Category. ASAP hopes to continue this momentum and build greater interest in the sport by hosting more paddlig events and inviting new and veteran paddlers to join them on the water.

Cinco de Mayo Fun Race Results
May 07, 2008
40 paddlers competed in informal outrigger races held Saturday May 3 at Utulei Beach. Notable absences were Team ANZ, Team EPA, and the Desperados who all sent regrets for work commitments. The first race was delayed until about 3:30 in order to allow the junior sailors to finish their last race of the day. 7 events were completed with the last race ending at about 6:15 in a little under 3 hours. Unfortunate windy conditions forced the cancellation of finals for the 500M and the 1000M turn races. Many paddlers then enjoyed the evening at the PPYC Cinco de Mayo junior sailing fundraiser.
