Event Details
The concept of promoting goodwill and communication with our northern neighbours through the Arafura Games is a rewarding exercise for all-participating countries, officials, and players. There will be three competitions in the Arafura Games:

Under 23 - Male Tournament
We anticipate the Arafura Games 2005 will attract Under - 23 teams from the Middle East, Asian countries as well as Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Pacific nations and Australia States. A highly competitive, but friendly tournament, is expected.

Open Senior Women Tournament
Teams from Asian countries as well as Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Pacific nations and the USA are expected to compete.

Open Male Futsal Tournament "5-a-side
We anticipate the Arafura Games 2005 will attract Futsal teams from the Asian countries as well as New Zealand, Pacific nations and Australia States. A highly competitive, but friendly tournament, is expected.

Event Location
Arafura Games Under - 23 and Open Women's Soccer will be played within the Marrara Sporting Complex, using two ovals.

Arafura Games Futsal Tournament will be played at the Casuarina Senior College.

Event Rules
Australian Soccer Association Ltd has sanctioned the tournament, to be conducted under FIFA Rules of the Game.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much will it cost?
There is no registration fee to participate in the Arafura Games. However, you are responsible for costs associated with air travel, accommodation and daily living expenses. Arafura Games organisers provide transport to and from the airport to your place of accommodation, and to and from playing venues and accommodation. Arafura Games accreditation also provides free access to transportation using the Darwin Public Bus service.

What about accommodation for my team and officials?
A contractor has been engaged to operate the Arafura Games Bedbank. This service will be available from October 2002 and more details will be available shortly under `Accommodation' at www.arafuragames.nt.gov.au. Accommodation should be booked early to benefit from early specials and avoid disappointment.

Where can our team train? Darwin City Council grounds located at Millner (Bagot Park Oval) and Malak (Malak Oval) are available for training purposes to soccer teams participating in the Arafura Games. Both venues have soccer goals and marked pitches. Contact Soccer Coordinator Bill Miller info@footballnt.com.au to obtain further information.

Where do I catch a bus?
Public transport covers most of the Darwin and Palmerston areas with relatively easy access to training venues and accommodation outlets. Bus schedules are available from your Soccer Coordinator Bill Miller.

What days will Soccer be played?
Soccer matches commence Sunday 18 May as a round-robin event ending on Friday 23 May with the Gold, Silver and Bronze medal play-offs.

Can we bring a referee to the Arafura Games?
Yes, all teams must provide a referee. It is important to provide details of your Referee when forwarding your `Expression of Interest' to the Games committee. Australian Soccer Association National Director of Referees will be in attendance during the Arafura Games to conduct a referee seminar and a match Inspectors course.
