There is not the same outside expectation of a premiership but Cairns Saints player coach Mark Kennedy believes a similar self-belief remains in his playing group ahead of the AFL Cairns finals series.
The Saints were the benchmark of 2008 and played accordingly in the season decider, belting South Cairns by 57 points to deservedly claim the flag.
But changes in playing personnel means the Saints are not the force they were last year, though they remain a finals contender after finishing the regular season in third.
Tomorrow they battle the manunda Hawks in the first semi-final at Cazalys with the loser eliminated from the title race.
