The Under 14 Competition has provided some classic games this year and this Preliminary Final was no different betwen Pax Hill and TEDAS.
The first quarter was a very even contest, with no side able to gain the upper hand early in the game. Pax Hills slippery wingman Jordan Royal kicked the first goal of the game after collecting the ball off the pack in the goal square. Paxs next goal came after their Captain, Rohan Hilderbrand collected up the ball and snapped truly. TEDAS continued to try and move the ball forward without much luck, and Pax Hill managed their third of the quarter when Justin Rogers took a contested mark and slotted the ball through the big sticks to give Pax Hill a handy 3-2-20 to 0-1-01 lead at quarter time.
In the second quarter, Brock Rowson from TEDAS kicked their first major when he picked up a loose ball from a marking contest. TEDAS were making more of the play in this quarter, but Pax Hill managed their fourth for the game after a kick off the ground in the goal square and restore their 3 goal lead. TEDAS managed another goal before half time, closing the margin to 2 goals, 4-3-27 to 2-3-15.
TEDAS kicked the first goal of the third quarter to move within 6 points. However, Pax Hill lifted and continually peppered the TEDAS goal, and if not for the strong marking of Corey Nickels, they may have been 6-7 goals in front. Craig Robinson kicked truly for Pax Hill, and Jordan Rowley hit the post, before TEDASs Ryan Dunn goaled to keep TEDAS in touch, trailing by 8 points. Before three quarter time, Rohan Hilderbrand and Zac Gutteridge both managed goals for Pax Hill, taking a 20 point lead into the last quarter.
With a spot in a Grand Final up for grabs, TEDAS started off the last quarter in style, kicking two quick goals to reduce the margin back to 8 points. This seemed to reignite Pax Hill, as Jackson Sloan and Goose Buykx-Smith both goaled for Pax Hill to all but put the game beyond reach of TEDAS. However, they were not about to lie down, with Shae Duncan taking a strong contested mark and goaling to still give them a chance. Justin Rogers and Nick Tile both managed goals in the dying minutes for Pax Hill, allowing them to run out winners in a very entertaining game, 11-8-74 to 7-5-47.
Best for Pax Hill were Ben Northover, Rohan Hilderbrand, Zac Gutteridge, Jackson Sloan, Aaron Scullin and Justin Rogers, while Best for TEDAS were Corey Nickels, Jake Main, Chris Mackerell, Brock Rowson, Sam Carroll, and Koby Jennings.
