The Preliminary Final between Glengarry and TEDAS would be a rematch of their one and only encounter for the season, with Glengarry winning that match 8-9-57 to 1-2-8.
The sun was out, but the wind was going to make scoring difficult due to the swirly conditions. The opening quarter was a tight even contest, as neither team was able to gain the ascendancy. The first goal of the game was a lovely kick from the pocket by Glengarrys Dylan Golding. It wasnt long before TEDAS goal sneak Kade Duncan popped up close to goal and managed to roll one past the fullback, and not long after he cleaned up in the goal square to give his team the lead at quarter time, 2-1-13 to 1-1-7.
Tyson Siddle snapped a goal on his trusty left foot early in the second quarter for Glengarry to even the scores. The TEDAS backline endured a lot of pressure during this quarter, constantly repelling Glengarry forward attacks. TEDASs Mitch Membrey grabbed a strong mark on the half forward line from an errant kick-in, finding Zac Kilgower with a short pass closer to goal, who then short passed to Mitch who had run on into space, and converted the kick into a much needed goal against the run of play. Nearly straight away, Ricky Cochrane received a free kick for putting his head over the ball, and was aided by a 50m penalty, with his kick being marked strongly by Jake Rooney in the square and another goal to TEDAS, extending their lead to 2 goals. Just before half time, Jake was on the end of a Kade Duncan pass, and he slotted through their 3rd for the quarter, and that was the margin at half-time, 5-2 to 2-2.
Both coaches addressed their teams, searching for my effort and better use of the ball during the break to have that chance of playing in a Grand Final. Paul Koul from TEDAS was having a sensational game at Centre Half Back, as he constantly made a contest, winning the ball and running it out of the danger area. Glengarry created a couple of chances early in the quarter, and were unlucky, as both Cameron Graham and Tyson Siddle both hit the post. There was only one goal kicked for the third quarter, with Jake Rooney taking another strong pack mark and kicking straight, making the scores 6-2-38 to 2-6-18.
With both teams looking for that first goal of the last quarter, it was Kade Duncan who collected the ball in the pocket and kicked truly to extend the lead to 26 points. The Glengarry boys continued to work hard and push the ball forward, with Cameron Graham conjuring up a goal when TEDAS failed to clear the ball. Both backlines were under much pressure, and when TEDAS Captain Ricky Cochrane kicked his first goal of the game midway through the last quarter, that was considered the sealer, and TEDAS would go on and record a very memorable win and earn themselves a spot in next weeks Grand Final against Combined Saints.
TEDAS Best were Paul Koul, Kade Duncan, Mitch Membrey, Zac Kilgower, Ricky Cochrane, Jake Rooney and for Glengarry, Cameron Graham, Riley Johnston, Matt Stoddart, Dylan Golding and Tyson Siddle.
