The Under 10 Preliminary Final between West End and Southside was going to be a good test of character of West End, after suffering their first defeat of the season last week in the Second Semi.
Southside boys came out firing in the first quarter and kicked the first goal of the game through Nathan Heard with the aid of a slight breeze. West End hit back not long after with a goal to Matt Williams, and followed this up with goals to Jake Sands and Liam Barry, taking a 13 point lead into the first change.
Kicking with the breeze in the second term, West End created opportunities for themselves with some good long kicks, with their forwards taking advantage, adding 4 goals 3 behinds, and holding a 40 point lead at half time.
Both coaches encouraged their teams on their efforts and asked that they keep putting in and Southside strived to create opportunities, which on many occasions were stopped by Jake Sands and Nathan Catherwood. By three quarter, West End held a match winning lead of 11 goals.
In the last quarter, Southside constantly forced the ball forward, never giving up which was fantastic for these kids, adding 2 goals 2 for the quarter. In the end, West End were too good on the day, winning their way in the Grad Final and a rematch with TEDAS.
Best Players for West End were Jake Sands, Liam Barry, Nathan Catherwood, Steven Armatas, Jai Slaby, Matt Williams and Jesse Biemans, and for Southside, it was a Great Team Effort.
