Tweed Coast progressed to the preliminary final in their first year as a club with a 94 point win over Ballina Bombers 20.15 (135) to 6.5 (41).
Although Tweed led 8.10 to 3.1 at half time the Bomberts hadn't played that badly. It was tweed's big men that were the difference. The second hald however was all Tweed. With the heat starting to take its toll they kicked 12 goals to three for the half to progessed to the preliminary final at Ballina next week.Main goalkickers for Tweed were Julian Van dan Driest 6, Faulkner 4 & Lynch & Round 3 each.
The major semi was a high standard game with both sides dominating at various stages of the game before Byron finished on top 18.5 (113) to 12.16 (88).
After a tight first ten minutes when both teams kicked 2 goals, the Magpies stepped up a gear and ended the quarter with 8 straight goals while the Swans managed 4.2 kicking into the breeze. The Swans reduce the lead to 12 points at the long break and after a tough third quarter when neither team could assert an assendency Byron led 13.3 (81) to 9.12 (66).
The game was going to go down to the wire. Lismore kicked the first scores of the quarter and reduced the margin to 6 points at one stage. Byron kicked away again and stretched the lead to 20 points but Lismore kept coming and again reduced the lead to 9 points before Byron finished off for a 25 point win.
Both sides finished with a number of injuries such was the contest. Byron have a week off to recover before they front for their fifteenth grand final whilst the Swams meet Tweed Coast at Ballina for the chance to have another "crack" at the Magpies.
